Aldinga Beach - Exotic Garden
The client for this project has more exotic tastes which led the design away from the usual contemporary native gardens we predominantly focus on towards a modern coastal xeriscape design. This style combines contemporary architectural design with hardy, drought-tolerant plants suited to arid or coastal environments. This project gave us a chance to develop a garden with some amazing colours, forms and textures. Instead of dense garden beds, mixed native and exotic plants are widely spaced as distinct focal points to accentuate their varied geometric structures, textures, and foliage colors. The typical rear yard lawn is completely replaced with white decorative gravel and larger river stones, which drastically cuts water evaporation and keeps maintenance down. The bright, light-colored stones contrast sharply with the dark charcoal brick house and charcoal fences, pulling focus directly onto the shapes of the plants. The clients have done a great job with maintenance as it has started to establish.
