Magill Modern design

This backyard showcases a contemporary, multi-level geometric garden design that maximizes usable space on a sloped terrain through clean lines and texturally diverse zoning. The slope is managed using pre-existing charcoal slate-look concrete sleeper retaining walls. This structure creates distinct planting beds while preventing soil erosion. A prominent circular planter made of weathered Corten steel anchors the left side of the yard and compliments the rear circular paved sitting area. It features a single feature tree (a pink Crepe Myrtle) surrounded by light-colored river stone mulch, adding an industrial, organic focal point. Rectangular large format pavers are embedded directly into the lush green lawn to form a linear off centre pathway that smoothly bridges the grass area to the circular paved area. Screening plants and colorful ground covers fill out the garden beds. The upper level includes multiple dwarf fruit trees to provide mixed produce for extended periods. A dense mixture of culinary herbs (such as basil and rosemary) and textured perennial shrubs fills out the primary viewing level. A neatly manicured lawn balances out the hardscape elements with expansive, soft green space. The front yard includes mostly low maintenance, drought tolerant native plantings to create street appeal.
